Is it possible to work from the top of a mountain?

When you're remote, you really can work from anywhere.
Even from the top of a mountain.

We're a fully remote team that promotes making remote and hybrid work more fun, so of course that means we like to have fun ourselves. We like to keep things interesting and test out crazy scenarios. You know, like driving to the top of a mountain and setting up a work station.

It sounds crazy, I know. But these days, all you really need is a hot spot connection and you really can work from anywhere.

The Test

In our last team brainstorm, we were discussing some fun marketing ideas we could try out. Our founders had previously done an event where they worked on top of a U-Haul in different spots throughout San Francisco, and we wanted to do something in a similar vein. One of the ideas we came up with was to work from some crazy spots when we were all together at our next onsite.

Sean hosted our Boulder onsite and was able to gather up some foldable tables and desks from his friends. He had a few cool spots up in the mountains in mind that we could work from. So, we packed up the car, and drove up to Sunrise Amphitheater. We must've looked like a pretty strange bunch setting up shop on the top of a mountain.

Obviously, we weren't up there working for hours. This was simply an experiment to see if it could be done. Once we had gotten everything set up, we did a couple of tests to see if we were able to communicate with each other in Pragli. Of course, things loaded a tad bit slower than it would at home, but it actually worked!

The Takeaway

We always tout that you can work from anywhere when you're remote, and we want to be able to back that up. Hence, the crazy stunts like working on a U-Haul or working on a mountain. I mean, we're certainly not going to recommend that you rent out a U-Haul or drive up to the top of a mountain to work, but we've proved it's doable. The point is, being able to work from anywhere is a huge perk of being remote. As the world opens back up, you won't be limited to only being able to work from your house. Take advantage of the opportunity to explore and enjoy the outdoors.
